The stylish redeveloped waterfront Vicoria Dock is a popular yachting marina set alongside the beautiful harbour looking out over the scenic Menai Straits and the Isle of Anglesy.

Betws y Coed & Ffestiniog Railway

Outstanding scenery, comfortable carriages and historic engines await you, in the heart of Snowdonia.

Glorious coastlines, ancient oak woodlands, mountains, rivers and castles, all beckon as you embark on your journey on our award winning railways. With some of the most comfortable carriages on any preserved railway – standard or narrow gauge – you can step back in time to a more civilised age.

The Ffestiniog Railway is the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway with almost 200 years of history, taking you on a journey to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog.  Historic trains climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, round tight bends (even a complete spiral) clinging to the side of the mountain or tunnelling through it.

The Ffestiniog Railway and it’s infrastructure are now an integral part of the UNESCO “Slate landscape of North Wales” World Heritage Site.

Snowdon Mountain Railway

A railway to the summit of Snowdon was first proposed in 1869 by Sir Richard Moon, Chairman of the London & North Western Railway, after a branch line from Bangor to Llanberis had been completed. Initial Parliamentary Bills were met with stiff opposition from the landowner Mr George William Duff Assheton-Smith of the Vaynol Estate, who thought a railway would spoil the scenery.

Snowdon Mountain Railway was constructed between December 1894-96, when the first sod was cut by Enid Assheton-Smith (after whom locomotive No. 2 was named), at a total cost of £63,800 (equivalent to more than £10m in todays money).

150 men with picks, shovels and dynamite laid almost eight kilometres of track up the mountain – all in 14 months.

Enjoy an authentic experience onboard the heritage Snowden Mountain Railway Trains.

Take a once in a lifetime heritage railway adventure to the summit of Snowdon(weather permitting), Yr Wyddfa, the majestic mountain with breathtaking views.

As the train travels up the mountain, you’ll experience awe-inspiring views and uncover the mountain’s hidden secrets, from viaducts, waterfalls and gorges to the remnants of abandoned farms, chapels and medieval settlements.
