Caernarfon

Caernarfon is home to Wales , most famous castle and an UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The castle is prominent in the skyline for all to see and the town's narrow streets has a choice of shops to browse. The sylish redeveloped waterfront Victoria Dock is a popular yachting marina set alongside the beautiful harbour looking out over the scenic Menai Straits and the Isle of Anglesey.

 

The Welsh Highland Railway & Porthmadog

The Welsh Highland Railway & Porthmadog, runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foot of Snowdon and the picture postcard village of Beddgelert towards the spectacular Abergalsslyn Pass.  Leaving the mountains behind, the railway winds it's way through the streets of Porthmadog before entering the line's terminus at the harbour Station.

 

Portmeirion

Portmeirion situated on a private peninsula overlooking stunning coastal scenery, the Italian Riviera meets rural Wales with riot of colour and architectural styles at Portmeirion Village.  Built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, is now one of Wales' most popular destinations.  It is wll known as the location for the 1960's cult TV series The Prisoner.  It comprises a cluster of colour-washed buildings around a central piazza, scenic surroundings and extensive woodlands, two hotels , historic cottages, gift shops, spa and award winning restaurants.  It has become known as one of the most successful British architectural projects of the twentieth century.

Using an eco-friendly approach, he designed his architecural vision around a Mediterranean piazza.  Endangered buildings and unwanted artefacts from all over the globe were transported and rebuilt to create a nest of loggias, grand porticoes and tiny terracotta-roofed houses, painted in bright colours.

 

Snowdon Mountain Railway

Take time to appreciate the fantastic and unique jounery on the Heritage Steam Experience.

A return journey allows for a 30 minute stop-over before passengers must return on the same train.  As you make your way up the mountain, you'll experience awe-inspiring views and uncover the mountain's hidden sectrets, from viaducts, waterfalls and gorges to the remnants of abandoned farms, chapels and medieval settlements.
