Aberystwyth Day Trip

Aberystwyth Day Trip

The town is nestled bewtween three hills and two beaches, and hosts some castle ruins, a pier and a harbour

Aberystwyth Day Tour

Aberystwyth is a busy town in the heart of Cardigan Bay on the west coast of Wales. The literal meaning of the name ‘Aberystwyth’ is mouth of the river Ystwyth (this is why you see many Aber‘s around Wales!), although it is the Afon Rheidol that runs through the town.

While Aberystwyth is not a technically a city, the town Aberystwyth Ceredigion, has been named Wales' first City of Literature by UNESCO, due to it's "rich literary scene.

A visit is quite impossible without a walk, jog or mindfulness moment on the mile long Victorian promenade. The seafront also boasts the oldest pier in Wales, Royal Pier, built in 1864. It offers the second best vantage point of Aberystwyth. And the best vantage point is at the end of north beach’s promenade, atop the 430 feet that is Constitution Hill.

Shopping

There’s lots & lots of lovely independent shops & Boutique's offering ladies contemporary fashions and accessories all mixed in with the popular High St brands.

Small charming second hand bookshop where it’s easy to get lost in the racks of books  for a few hours,  or just the multiple Welsh jewellers dealing with welsh gold.

If you're wanting to pick up a Welsh gift shop then Aberystwyth is the  perfect place to visit.

Aberystwyth Camera Obscura

At the top of Constitution Hill, at the north end of the prom, you’ll find the world’s largest Camera Obscura which provides a bird’s eye view of more than 1000 square miles, in a 360 degree sweep around Aberystwyth. The Camera Obscura is accessible via the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway.

The longest cliff railway in Britain is a treat for all ages and offers superb views of the town.

Pen Dinas and Aberystwyth Castle

A local landmark to walk up Pen Dinas Hill, an Iron Age hillfort, to take a closer look at the 1850s monument, erected as a memorial to the first Duke of Wellington.

Also, try and make time to see Aberystwyth Castle . The English castle was built to keep the Welsh out in the 13th century.
